Resistant to heavy wear, high loads and repeated exposure to moisture
Plywood products have very good strength in relation to their weight. By using plywood in various vehicle structures, the net weight of the truck, trailer etc. can be reduced and at the same time its payload increased. Thus by using plywood in vehicles operators save money during the service lifetime of the vehicle.
The various surfaced vehicle plywoods manufactured by Finnforest are also resistant to heavy wear, high loads and repeated exposure to moisture. The panels are characterised by a durable and smooth surface, a pleasant visual appearance and trouble-free cleaning, installation and working. The use of these panels for example in vehicle floors has increased quickly as a result of active product development. By knowing well the strength properties of plywood and steel and by malting use of computer-based strength calculation methods, light-weight and durable plywood-steel structures can be conveniently designed and optimised for a wide range of vehicles.
Birch plywood has the best strength, stiffness and durability characteristics. A vehicle which is loaded by a heavy fork-lift truck should preferably be designed with a flooring made of birch plywood. Its bending and rolling shear strengths are so good that with a proper spacing of stiffeners and a suitable panel thickness the floor will withstand wheel loads up to 50 kN, assuming a contact area of 80 mm x 180 mm. Generally, for all vehicles whose floors are required to have good strength and a long service life, birch plywood is recommended.
