Maintenance specialist Petri Nevalainen graduated in information technology from Vaasa University of Applied Sciences and qualified as an engineer 2005 when he was employed by Kerto mill in Lohja.
”I work as the maintenance planner in the mill’s electrical department. My job description is quite diversified and it comprises the proactive maintenance of machinery and equipment in production and the mill area. I also plan repairs and have supervisory and development responsibilities. I work in cooperation both with our external contractors and the mill personnel,” says Petri.
A maintenance planner must have a good knowledge and expertise in several different fields. An engineering degree is a necessary basis for the practical management of electrical installations. In addition, the job also requires expertise in IT, electronics, automation, HPAC and hydraulics – subjects which Petri has studied as well.
”I’ll graduate in automation engineering from Vantaa Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in autumn 2009. After I’ve passed a few remaining competence-based exams, I’ll complete my studies and qualify as an electrician. My knowledge in electrical installations is complemented by a refrigeration apparatus assembler course, which I’m taking in Järvenpää at the moment. After the course, I will be a certified installer of air heating pumps. In addition, I qualified in December as a plumber and pipe system planner from the AEL institute (Finland’s leading provider of technical training),” he adds.
”I consider Metsäliitto Wood Products Industry as a very reliable employer who has offered me good chances to educate and develop myself. We’ve an excellent team spirit that spurs us on towards better results. Each day brings new challenges which offer me the chance to learn something new each time,” concludes Petri.
